The Cultural Advisor of Iraq Embassy meets SBMU Officials

On April 15, 2014, Dr. Mohammad Abdul-Hussein Mohammad Khatib, the Cultural Advisor and Mr. Majidi from the scientific division of Iraq Embassy in Tehran met Prof. Gharehbaghian, the SBMU Director of the International Affairs Office, Dr. Shahin Shadnia, and the SBMU Director of Graduate Studies as well as Mr. Kamanghad from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The meeting was opened by presenting a brief history of university establishment and a concise report on activities, scientific, research and treatment capacities of the university by Prof. Gharehbaghian, he also declared readiness of the University for cooperation in terms of training students and conducting research projects in research centers of the university.

University recommendations:

  • Student admission in different levels of education , in particular higher education (master’s, residency, fellowship and subspecialty)
  • Presenting short term training courses for physicians and faculty members of Iraq universities
  • Specialized training for students of higher education in research centers of the university

Having offered congratulations on the Iranian New Year, Dr. Khatib referred to the memorandum of understanding signed by Iran and Iraq last year, based on which 400 Iraqi students have been supposed to study in Iran during the current year. He mentioned that Iraqi students are interested to continue their medical education in Iran. Also, Mr. Kamanghad eagerly welcomed any cooperation to be made including student visa issuance, and he was hopeful about stronger relationship between the two countries which could be resulted from such scientific collaborations. In the end, a draft of MOU provided by the Iraqi counterpart was handed in to Director of the international affairs for further evaluation.
